Grandparents day at Tops!

Sunday 1st October marks National Grandparents Day in the UK. Grandparents’ Day was established in the UK by the charity Age Concern, now known as Age UK. Grandparents’ Day has been celebrated since 2008 and is celebrated on the first Sunday in October.

As part of celebrating Grandparents Day, staff and preschool children from Tops Wimborne and Tops Corfe Mullen were invited to visit residents at Streets Meadow Care Home in Wimborne. The children spent time making ‘Happy Grandparents Day cards’ and hand delivered them to each resident. They spent the afternoon playing games, singing songs and telling stories.

Tops Lakeside hosted an afternoon tea for all grandparents to attend. In preparation for the day, the staff and children created a tree containing photographs of their grandparents to display.

The children at Tops Christchurch made scones and sandwiches to give to their grandparents at their afternoon tea!

Many of the nurseries held grandparents afternoon tea parties with tasty treats on offer, some of which were made by the children.
