A Magical Morning at Tops Havant

Children and staff at Tops Havant celebrated a truly magical morning in their brand-new preschool room, welcoming residents from Portsdown View Care Home for a special festive visit filled with music, creativity, and community spirit.

The morning began with the preschool children performing a heart-warming Christmas carol concert for their parents, many of whom were moved to tears as they watched their little ones sing in the new space for the very first time. After the performance, the children proudly presented four visiting residents from Portsdown View Care Home with handmade cards, festive tree decorations, and Christmas oaty biscuits they had made as special gifts. The children and residents then spent quality time together creating additional Christmas crafts and enjoying the season’s festivities.

Parent Danielle Lish shared that her family had a wonderful time watching their little boy sing and smile with his friends during the Tops Christmas carols morning. She explained how he had been singing the songs at home all week and said that, as a parent, being able to share moments like this filled her with joy and pride. Danielle added that she thought it was fantastic that residents from the local care home attended too – “seeing them so happy was a beautiful moment,” she said.

Once parents had left, the children performed a second carol concert exclusively for the care home residents, who were delighted by the music and the children’s warmth. One resident described the morning as “absolutely wonderful” and praised the Tops Havant team for being “so caring and attentive with the children.” Another shared how meaningful the experience was, explaining that their wife had worked in a playschool for 19 years and that it was lovely to gain an insight into what she did.

Megan Alexander, a member of staff from Portsdown View Care Home, commented that “intergenerational visits are very important to all ages,” thanking the nursery for the invitation and saying they looked forward to future visits.

Claire McQuilken, Deputy Manager at Tops Havant Nursery, said the event was a very special moment for the team and the children. “Taking the children into their brand-new preschool room for the first time and watching their faces light up as they explored the space was absolutely wonderful,” Claire explained. “Seeing them then share music, creativity, and kindness with their parents and the residents of Portsdown View Care Home made the morning even more memorable. Our new preschool building will officially open for the children on Monday 5th January 2026, with a special open event taking place on Monday 2nd February 2026. We’re excited to continue building this intergenerational connection in the New Year, creating meaningful experiences that enrich both the children and the residents alike.”

Following the success of this festive celebration, the team at Tops Havant plan to welcome the residents of Portsdown View Care Home back in the New Year and are exploring opportunities for the children to visit the care home, helping to build a lasting intergenerational partnership at the heart of the Havant community.
