Our Story
Since its humble beginnings in 1990, when a small nursery in Parkstone cared for just 4 children, we’ve grown into a vibrant family of nurseries across the south, with more than 4,000 children receiving our exceptional care and education.
Born out of a vision and desire to lead the way in the world of early years education and care, whilst simultaneously creating a more sustainable future for the children in our care, it was whilst diving the oceans that the founder Cheryl Hadland experienced the ever increasing levels of plastic pollution suffocating the environment, that led her to extend this consciousness into the education and care for young children within corporating the same care for the environment.
Tops Day Nurseries stems from of a vision and desire to lead the way in the world of child care and early years education, whilst simultaneously creating a more sustainable future for the children in our care. We borrow the planet from our children and it is our duty to protect it for them in return

Our Sustainability Charter
Employee Owned Trust
In April 2024, we transitioned to an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT), with our employees having part ownership, giving colleagues more of a sense of belonging, accountability, and the right to have a say about the running of the company, its future, and opportunities. It also allows all colleagues to benefit financially from the company’s future success.

Our talented catering team serves up delicious, nutritious meals every day, including our pioneering Game Menu featuring wild meats like venison. With no added sugar and plenty of fresh, seasonal ingredients, our menus are designed to support healthy growth, adventurous eating, and a greener future for every child in our care.
