Baby Grows Day Nurseries in Gillingham, Dorset will be welcoming parents and babies from 3 months old to explore nursery life and engage in a number of exciting sensory activities.These activities are designed to engage baby’s brains by using different senses.
The stay and play sessions will take place every Friday from 3rd February for 6 weeks, with the last session held on Friday 10th March.
The first session will demonstrate the benefits of messy play. Babies and children will be using their bodies as their canvas in this body painting session. The tactile experience gained during messy play helps little ones experience a variety of textures. During messy play, babies and toddlers are developing eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills.
The second session held on Friday 10th February, parents will be able to sample the value of heuristic play and treasure baskets. The contents of a treasure basket stimulate a baby’s curiosity and allow them to discover objects through first-hand experiences. The baby will also enjoy the independent decision-making involved in choosing items. The idea of playing with everyday items is not new, but a simple treasure basket gives babies an opportunity to explore, experiment and make choices at their own pace.
The next session will be themed around Valentine’s Day, with easy crafts and card making that can be altered to any occasion.
Water play and baby massage sessions will be held on Friday 24th February. Babies and toddlers are particularly drawn to water, not only because of the familiarity of their womb environment but also because of the calming effects it can have. It’s a great way for discovering about temperatures, capacity, gravity, waterways, dams, filling and emptying, splashing and more. Parents will then be taught techniques of baby massage. Massage has many added benefits for your baby, including improving weight gain, aiding digestion, improving circulation, and easing teething pain.
On Friday 3rd March, the session will be focussed around how to make sensory discovery bottles. Sensory bottles give babies access to exploring all sorts of interesting materials that would normally be off-limits, such as glitter, pom-poms, sequins and certain liquids.
The sessions will conclude on Friday 10th March with malleable play, learning skills that can be continued throughout childhood. Parents can learn how to make play dough and gloop for children and babies to enjoy.
