Big bin, little bin… which ones which?

bin

Most houses have a big wheelie bin for recycling and a smaller wheelie bin for general rubbish. These bins are collected on dates provided by your local council.

Tops Day Nurseries Head Office is based in Bournemouth, and we have 3 nurseries in the surrounding area. Using Bournemouth as an example, over 60% of household waste can be recycled, meaning 91% of household rubbish had to be diverted from landfill. This statistic is considerably high, and similar across the country purely because of the misconception of what can actually be recycled. To support local Councils, here are a list of things to recycle and things to put in general waste.

*Based on Bournemouth Borough Council
In the event your bins are missed during a collection, contact your local council to rearrange a collection. Extra recycling should be collected from a cardboard box put alongside your bin on collection day. Having said this, extra rubbish will not be collected if left on top of, next to or overflowing from your general waste bin.

Recycling makes the most of our valuable resources and reduces the number of materials that are wasted. Did you know a food tin can be recycled and put back on a shops shelf within 6 weeks?
