Building Healthy Food Habits on Healthy Eating Week at Tops

Welcome to Healthy Eating Week at Tops Day Nurseries! This week, we’re diving into the wonderful world of nutritious and delicious food. We’re thrilled to showcase our specially curated venison menus and no added sugar options. At Tops Day Nurseries, we believe in fostering healthy eating habits from a young age, ensuring that our children grow up strong, happy, and well-nourished.

What is Healthy Eating?

Healthy eating is about more than just consuming fruits and vegetables. It’s a holistic approach to food that includes variety, balance, and moderation. Healthy eating means providing our bodies with essential nutrients—vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates—needed to function optimally. It involves choosing whole foods over processed ones, incorporating lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of fresh produce into our meals, and avoiding added sugars and unhealthy fats.

We understand that a healthy, balanced diet and regular physical activity are essential for children’s health and well-being. At Tops Day Nurseries, we have designed a balanced menu to support growth and development using the Children’s Food Trust recommendations. The key thing to remember is that overall, eating healthily is all about balance. While it’s perfectly fine to indulge in foods high in fat and/or sugar occasionally, it’s important to enjoy them in moderation, not as part of our daily diet. The cornerstone of our menus is a focus on balanced, nutritious everyday foods.

Discovering Nutritious Foods During Healthy Eating Week:

Healthy foods come in many forms. Here are some key components of a nutritious diet:

  1. Fruits and Vegetables: Packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, fruits and vegetables are vital for maintaining good health. Aim to include a rainbow of colors in your diet to ensure a variety of nutrients.
  2. Whole Grains: Foods like brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and oats are excellent sources of energy and fiber, supporting digestive health and providing sustained energy throughout the day.
  3. Lean Proteins: Protein is essential for growth and repair. Opt for lean sources like poultry, fish, beans, legumes, and our star ingredient this week—venison.
  4. Dairy or Dairy Alternatives: Moreover, these provide calcium and vitamin D for strong bones and teeth. Choose low-fat or unsweetened options where possible.
  5. Healthy Fats: Found in nuts, seeds, avocados, and olive oil, healthy fats are important for brain health and overall well-being.
