Children and staff at Tops Lakeside have been forming links with local care home, Hilsea Lodge. Children have been given the opportunity to visit the elderly residents over the Christmas period.

As many of you may be aware, Channel 4 recently aired a documentary called ‘Old People’s Home for 4-Year-Olds’, where ten pre-school children visited a care home and got to spend time with the residents. Half of the residents had no immediate family, including their own children or grandchildren, and admitted to feeling lonely. The impact of having the children visit daily made such a difference to the elderly residents, they perked up and care staff saw improvements in their health and mental well-being.
Pre-School children visited Hilsea Lodge on 11th December, to sing carols for the staff and residents and to present the residents with salt dough decorations that they had made in nursery.
When the children arrived the staff at the care home had set out fruit and drinks for the children before they went and sat next to the Christmas tree to sing their songs.
The children and residents of the care home enjoyed the session so much that Tops Lakeside have arranged for monthly visits to be made to Hilsea Lodge, if you would like more information about this please speak to a member of the management team.
