National Cookie Day is the perfect excuse to bake up some delicious treats, and we believe everyone should be able to join in the fun! Whether you’re accommodating food allergies or simply looking for a sustainable, budget-friendly recipe, we’ve got you covered. Allergy-free cookies are not only safe for all to enjoy but also a great way to teach little ones about inclusivity and the importance of being mindful when sharing food with others.

Allergy-Free Banana Oat Cookie

This allergy-free recipe is perfect for most dietary needs, as it avoids common allergens like dairy, eggs, nuts, and gluten. Not only are these cookies eco-friendly and affordable, but they also use simple, bulk-buyable ingredients that help reduce waste. Naturally sweetened and soft, they’re ideal for little hands to help make! For added sustainability, consider buying oats and dried fruit in bulk to minimise packaging waste, using overripe bananas that might otherwise go to waste, and storing any leftovers in a reusable container or wrap to cut down on single-use plastics.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas (acts as a natural sweetener and binder)
  • 1 1/2 cups gluten-free rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds (optional, skip for seed allergies)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon or vanilla extract for flavor (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with a reusable silicone mat or parchment paper.
  2. Mash the bananas in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Stir in the oats until fully combined. Add raisins or seeds if desired.
  4. Scoop small portions of the dough onto the baking tray and flatten slightly with the back of a spoon.
  5. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden. Let cool and enjoy!

We embrace every child’s uniqueness, including their dietary needs. Baking allergy-free cookies is just one way we promote inclusivity and sustainability in our nurseries. Activities like this encourage hands-on learning and help children understand the importance of making choices that care for others and the planet.

This National Cookie Day, why not try these allergy-free cookies with your little ones? Whether you’re baking for family, friends, or a classroom, these treats are sure to bring smiles and create lasting memories!
