20 Years of Tops Portsmouth: Jade Missing’s Case Study

Join us as we embark on a journey to commemorate a significant milestone in the history of Tops Portsmouth—the celebration of its 20th birthday. In this case study we will be hearing from Jade Missing, Senior Regional Administrator, who has been a part of Tops Portsmouth’s journey for 19 years, as she reflects on the nursery’s success, from its humble beginnings to its current standing as a pillar of the community.

Jade has taken on many roles throughout her time with Tops. She started in 2005 as a childcare apprentice and worked her way through all different roles, Assistant to room manager, and completed level 2 and 3 childcare whilst doing so. Jade was then promoted to deputy manager, leading onto nursery manager. Then Jade found her passion for admin and has worked in the role for the last 10 years, whilst completing her business admin level 3, starting as an office manager and her most recent role of senior regional administrator. Jade loves dealing with numbers and her favourite tasks are funding and debtors. Continue reading our case study where Jade shares Tops Portsmouth’s success story.

1. What do you think has contributed to the nursery’s longevity and success over the past two decades?

Flexible hours has been a massive thing for us, as we have Hospital staff a lot of the time from around the area. Shift booking and long opening hours has worked well for us! Being able to remain open through Covid and supporting the key workers within their job roles was very important.

2. How has the nursery evolved and grown since you started?

We have had the mini beasts into Hi 5’s over the last few years, the occupancy for this has massively increased and again, works well for us. The cabin build in 2018, was there to be able to extend our preschool places within the building.

3. Can you share any memorable milestones or achievements from the nursery’s history?

Outstanding Ofsted report throughout the years! We have had many visitors throughout the time we have been open including hospital, The mayor and community services; fire and police departments.

We have been able to provide flexible childcare, as well as our extra-curricular activities; forest school and cooking school.”

We are having a big birthday celebration, where we are welcoming Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, they will be helping us to bury a time capsule. We are also lucky enough to enjoy some delicious food from our no-added sugar menus, especially made by our kitchen hub! We have also created a photo wall of the 20 years that we have been open for all to enjoy!
