At Tops Corfe Mullen, we’re excited to be taking part in Childrens Gardening Week — a wonderful opportunity to connect children with nature, teach them where their food comes from, and support their wellbeing through hands-on outdoor learning.

This year, all of the plants being used during Childrens Gardening Week have been lovingly grown right here in our very own polytunnel, located on-site at the nursery. The polytunnel has provided the perfect environment for the children and staff to observe the full growing process — from tiny seeds to flourishing plants. It’s been a great way for children to develop a deeper understanding of nature, the importance of care, and the joy of seeing something they’ve nurtured grow. Have a look at some of the plants we are growing:

Gardening isn’t just fun — it’s also incredibly beneficial for children’s development. It encourages patience, responsibility, and curiosity, while also supporting emotional wellbeing and fine motor skills. You can read more about the wellbeing benefits of gardening for children from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) here.

Throughout Gardening Week, our nurseries will be capturing photos of the children enjoying the activities — whether they’re planting, watering, or proudly showing off their creations. These moments are not only educational, but they’re also full of excitement, discovery, and connection with the natural world.

We can’t wait to share more updates and see all the children’s hard work blossom over the coming weeks!
