Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joys of reading.
Established in 1919, it is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, young people across the country participate by attending events at schools, libraries, bookstores, celebrating at home, engaging with book creators online and in person. The 2022 Children’s Book Week will occur from November 7th -13th!
Children everywhere can join in the fun of Children’s Book Week. The How Do You Book? Challenge
asks young readers to explore what they read, how they read, and where they read.

Reading at Tops
At Tops, we’re constantly trying to inspire our children to love reading for fun! Studies have shown that children that are read to on a regular basis have a broader range of vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better level of development when starting school. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. This helps them develop language & listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.
We make sure that your child is familiar with language and books so they can see how enjoyable reading is. We have regular story time when we read aloud to your child, sharing ideas about the book, whilst talking about the words and pictures. By drawing attention to pictures and associating the words with both pictures and real-world objects, your child will learn the importance of language.
At Tops, we’re regularly looking for reading events to help motivate children and parents to read more. Read about some of them: Book suggestions to help your little ones, National Read a Book Day, Roald Dahl Day and more.
