High spirits were shared across the Tops family this year when each setting held Christmas celebrations. Tops Winchester visited St Catherine’s View Care Home to join them in singing Christmas carols around the tree whilst Tops Portsmouth and Tops Poole spread cheer in their local hospitals, giving Christmas cards to the doctors and nurses. The nurseries celebrated within each setting with carol concerts, nativities and Christmas parties… It was so much fun!
Party time!
Lots of parties have taken place in many nurseries in the Tops Day Nurseries family, each with a twist! Children and Staff at Tops

Musgrove wore Christmas jumpers to their party; a Christmas lunch was freshly prepared by the nursery’s chefs for the staff and children to enjoy. Tops Charminster had been busy dancing, playing pass the parcel and having their faces painted. Unfortunately Father Christmas was too busy to stop off at nursery because it was so close to Christmas, but he left some lovely presents for the children, who were fascinated the big foot prints he left behind!
Children at Tops Wareham had a surprise visit from Father Christmas and one of his elves, they must have heard their beautiful carol service held at Lady St Mary’s Church! Each child received a gift and enjoyed a yummy Christmas lunch.

Tops Mini Mariners in Taunton started their party afternoon with lots of fun and games, such as musical statues and pass the parcel, it was great fun! One of the lovely parents read Christmas stories to the children, children were engrossed with the stories and was so excited when a special visitor arrived at the nursery… Father Christmas! Each child was invited to come up and talk to Father Christmas and even received a special gift. Unfortunately, Christmas was fast approaching so he couldn’t stay for long, there are so many presents to wrap back at the North Pole! Rest assured, presents were left for the children that didn’t attend nursery that day.
Tops Lights up Sturminster… Again!
Tops Sturminster took a trip into town to choose their own Christmas tree, the children chose the biggest, greenest beautiful tree they could find and decorated it in the pre-school room. Tops Sturminster also took part in the Christmas lantern parade. The parade was led by Father Christmas and Marty Mouse through the town before witnessing Sturminster’s ‘biggest ever light switch –on.’
Magical Christmas garden at Tops Bournemouth
Tops Bournemouth opened the gates to welcome staff, parents and children to their magical Christmas garden. The setting pulled out all the stops with giant snowmen, a snow machine and fairy lights. The staff and children from Tops Bournemouth had been working hard to prepare for the evening, painting reindeer, making shadow screens and decorating Christmas trees. There was a mini carol concert for visitors to participate in, a Christmas show and small Christmas market with a ‘Christmas around the world’ theme.
Christmas nativities
Staff and children were invited to Baby Grows in Gillingham to see the Pre-School children’s wonderful performance of the nativity. Three wise men rode trikes to baby Jesus and all children sang beautifully. Tops Newport also held a nativity within the nursery, the children worked very hard to remember all of their lines and lyrics and put on a wonderful performance.
Tops Wimborne’s nativity was held at St John’s Church, the children were very well behaved and everyone enjoyed joining in with the carols.
And the winner is…
Every year, Tops Day Nurseries hold an annual Christmas card competition across the family of nurseries. Staff spent time with the children creating their masterpieces before sending them in to head office for the winner to be chosen.
We had lots of brilliant Christmas card entries this year, and the 2015 winning entry was a fantastic reindeer card from Tops Parkstone!
The winner was presented with a brilliant arty prize, containing paint trays, sponges, paints and more. Well done and thank you to everyone that took part in the 2015 Christmas card competition and wish you the best of luck for next year’s entry!
