Tops Lakeside celebrated Charles Dickens birthday, taking part in a number of different activities based on the author’s life and novels.

Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in 1812, in the house that is now the Charles Dicken’s Museum. One of his most famous books is Oliver Twist which was published in 1838, as well as A Christmas carol and Great Expectations.
The children have been taking part in a number of activities based on the author’s life and novels.
The children explored how to make porridge (or gruel) and created some marvellous portraits of the writer using their mark making skills. The children also made some ghosts to resemble the three characters from ‘A Christmas Carol’.
The Children enjoyed learning about Charles Dickens and his life. Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth on the 7th of February 1812. Throughout his life he wrote a number of different books that made him famous. His first piece of writing was published in 1833, the short story ‘A Dinner at Poplar Walk’, it was first published anonymously in the Old Monthly Magazine.
