At Tops Day Nurseries, we are one of the UK’s leading eco-sustainable childcare providers and big believers in healthy eating. We understand a healthy, balanced diet and regular physical activity are essential for children’s health and well-being. With that said we have designed a balanced menu to support growth and development using the Children’s Food Trust recommendations.
Children in full-time childcare receive up to 90% of their daily food intake while at nursery. It is key that the food they are being offered gives them plenty of energy and nutrients through healthy, balanced meals throughout the day. That’s why our Catering Manager, Pete, is creating varied and exciting meals for the children with significantly reduced sugar. In 2016, we launched our no-added sugar menus which gained national attention.
We also offer vegan and vegetarian meals on our menu. Not only do these meals provide the children with all the right nutrients, but they are also much better for the environment and more cost-effective. Here at Tops, we do everything we can to maximise the social and environmental outcomes for children, colleagues, and the community, while being financially stable.

There is no doubt that humans reducing their meat and fish consumption is the best thing for the planet, and therefore for children’s long-term future. The vast majority of children love to eat what the other children eat, so nursery is the perfect opportunity to introduce a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to children’s diet in a fun and social way”.
