It is estimated that 10% of children and young people have a clinically diagnosable mental problem, however 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.
Hello Yellow is a Young Minds Mental Health campaign on October 10th that encourages people to wear the colour yellow. If you’re a school, company or community group, you can help to raise vital funds! With #HelloYellow we can change attitudes, encourage discussion, and break the stigma around young mental health problems.
At Tops Day Nurseries we promote healthy living, positive thinking, and strongly believe in talking about our feelings from an early age. One activity the children can enjoy is using a range of facial expression props to represent how they are feeling on that day, and why. Our settings are free of single use plastic toys and filled with natural stimulating resources, open spaces and natural light. It has been proven that views of nature and connectivity to the environment has an effect on a child’s productivity and mental health.
So, whether you choose a subtle splash of colour or dress like sunshine from head-to-toe, together the objective is to show young people that they are not alone with their mental health.
