Introducing healthy inclusive meal plan at Tops

As the South’s leading chain of sustainable day nurseries, Tops Day Nurseries have been working tirelessly to support our key workers and address key issues surrounding the recent COVID-19 outbreak. Minimizing risk and protecting the children in our settings is paramount, and we are actively taking steps to reduce the chance of infection.

From June 1st 2020, we are asking that no packed lunches are to be bought into the nursery with children, due to the volume of items currently entering settings and the real risk of contamination. Studies have shown that COVID-19 lives on plastic for 72 hours, meaning anything bought in from home could carry the virus into the nursery. With over 50% of our nursery children having allergies, some of these can be life-threatening. Not all parents are aware of other children’s allergies and so there is an ever-increasing risk of contaminated food entering the setting without our knowledge.

There will be a flat rate charge of £3 per day for meals, and this will cover breakfast (from 7am-8:30am), a morning and afternoon snack, lunch (Noon-12:30pm), and tea (4pm-4:30pm). This charge will be applied whether your child has one, or all meals, and will be added to your invoice going forward. As you may have already fed or planning to feed your child early or late in the day, please book your child’s breakfast and tea if needed.

You can take a look here at one of the delicious sample menus. Lunches will start with cold crudites such as carrots and peppers, and there will be a main course such as sandwiches and quiche, or a hot meal should you specify one for your child. Please be aware that there is a limit to the number of hot meals we are able to provide but will endeavour to provide more should there be a demand. We are proud to offer a healthy choice station, filled with fresh fruit and yoghurt that the children can access if they are still hungry. As always, we will continue to cater to dietary requirements and allergies, however, the menu may be subject to change slightly depending on these requirements.

We understand that this may be an adjustment for some parents, and we wholly appreciate your support during these challenging times. To find out more take a look at our FAQ’s. Please speak to your local nursery manager should you have any other questions.
