hannah

What is your job title?

I am the Nursery Manager at Tops Newport, based at the Isle of Wight College

What qualifications do you hold?

I hold a BA Hons degree in Early Years Childhood Studies (level 6).

How long have you worked at Tops Day Nurseries?

I joined Tops in September 2013. I initially started as a level 3 practitioner before working my way up to Nursery Manager, I have been managing since June 2014.

Describe what a typical working day looks like?

Every day is different, however mostly I’m in ratio in the rooms working with the children and supporting staff. I help to cover lunches, completing manager’s tasks and mentoring apprentices and new staff. I also complete the school runs in the morning and in the afternoons.

What do you like most about your role?

I love watching the children grow and blossom as well as helping and supporting staff to become confident practitioners.

What qualities and skills do you think you need to do your job well?

You need to be caring, patient, enthusiastic, passionate, happy, and approachable, have a good understanding, good humour, and be calm in stressful situations.

What advice would you give someone looking to take on your role?

To stay calm and be positive in all situations, to remind yourself daily why you do what you do – everything is for the children.

What makes you smile at work?

The children always give me a reason to smile. Also knowing what they get out of being at our nursery on a day to day basis due to the hard work and dedication from the staff.
