Meet the manager – Stephanie Walker – Tops Parkstone

At Tops Day Nurseries, we understand the importance of the relationships between staff and parents, as well as staff and children. The next nursery manager we’d like to introduce you to is Stephanie Walker, Nursery Manager at Tops Parkstone.


What qualifications do you hold? I hold a BTEC National Diploma in early year’s Level 3, as well as Level 3 in leadership and management.  I am currently working towards my Level 5 Cache Diploma for Children and Young People’s Workforce.


How long have you worked at Tops Day Nurseries? I joined Tops Day Nurseries as a nursery practitioner in 2013 before being promoted to Acting Nursery Manager and then Nursery Manager.


Describe what a typical working day looks like? A typical day for me is interacting with children and supporting staff with coaching and mentoring them to ensure that they provide high standards of provision and quality of teaching. I will ensure the building is safe and support parents with any queries that they may have. I also work with the local community on various projects.


What do you like most about your role? Being able to be creative and provide a high quality, stimulating learning environment for the children.


What qualities and skills do you think you need to do your job well? In order to succeed in this role Nursery Manager’s need to be reliable, flexible, approachable, have a positive attitude and be creative, as well have be knowledgeable and experienced in childcare.


What advice would you give someone looking to take on your role? Be confident and willing to take on challenges. Ensure that you use every situation you experience as a learning tool, as those skills will be handy in different situations you may face.


What makes you smile at work? Seeing the children and staff enjoying quality time together and achieving.
