Muscliff Receives a Visit from a Fire Engine!

Children at Tops Muscliff Nursery were recently treated to an exciting visit from firefighters at Springbourne Fire Station, as part of the nursery’s ongoing topic on “people who help us.” The crew drove their fire engine into the nursery car park, giving children of all ages a memorable, hands-on experience of the important work firefighters do in the local community.

Throughout the visit, every child had the chance to climb up into the cab of the fire engine and explore what it might feel like to be a real firefighter on a call-out. The firefighters showed them the different control panels, explained how the powerful hoses work and talked about the specialist clothing and equipment they wear to stay safe. Children were able to try on firefighter helmets and use the radio to “talk” to the crew, which sparked lots of excitement and curious questions.

The visit followed several weeks of themed learning across the nursery. In each room, practitioners had been planning activities linked to firefighters and fire safety, from building fire stations with construction blocks and engaging in small-world play, to role-play areas with helmets and jackets, creative fire engine artwork and story sessions about emergency services. Meeting real firefighters and seeing a real fire engine helped to bring this learning to life and deepen the children’s understanding of how people help keep others safe.

To say thank you, the children made and presented handmade “thank you” flowers to the visiting crew. They had carefully created these in their rooms ahead of the visit, proudly handing them over in the garden. As the firefighters prepared to leave, they gave the children one final treat by turning on the fire engine’s lights and sirens, much to everyone’s delight.

Muscliff Fire Engine Visit

The Tops Muscliff team is extremely grateful to Springbourne Fire Station for their time, enthusiasm and support. Experiences like this not only create lasting memories but also help children learn about community safety, respect for emergency services and the many different ways people in their community work to help others every day.
