This week children at Tops Day Nurseries have been celebrating National Storytelling Week as part of a national campaign to highlight the importance of reading and sharing stories. National Storytelling Week 2020 is the 20th annual storytelling week and is happening all over the country. This week is all about encouraging parents, grandparents, siblings, carers and friends to share stories with one another for at least 10 minutes a day.

What better way to celebrate than reading story favourites to each other in our nurseries and sharing these with parents and grandparents? Children have even been getting messy with a variety of activities based on the books they are sharing.
The children have had lots of fun letting their imaginations run wild and learning the importance of reading and storytelling in childhood. The Literacy Trust reported that “spending just 10 minutes a day reading with children can make a crucial difference” to their education and development.

Stories can be found anywhere, from books in libraries to online tools or even your own imagination! The great thing about stories is that anyone can share them. Get inspired and share your favourite stories with your families this National Storytelling Week!
