At our Pokesdown day nursery & preschool in Bournemouth, we believe in providing Early Education and Care through active learning, where children are deeply engaged in the process. We offer a safe and secure environment so children can take risks and have fun. Our nurturing care doesn’t just apply to the children but to the parents as well, we make sure to support our parents wherever we can, after all, they are a part of the Tops family to.

There are no worksheets or workbooks in our nurseries – we want to inspire children to explore, investigate, design and work things out for themselves. Our aim is to inspire children to be adventurous, curious and excited to learn! Early Years is the time to allow children the opportunity to be creative, investigate their environment and build foundations for continued future learning. This is all supported within our nursery setting and outside, on our regular outings into the local community.

We take pride in creating beautiful, purposeful, learning spaces for the children to enjoy. On the ground floor of the nursery, we have 2 preschool rooms featuring a stage utilised as an additional area for children to explore.

Upstairs we have an open plan room for 2-3 year olds. Each area within the room has been designed for the children to be inquisitive, develop their motor skills and all whilst using stunning resources in a neutral environment. Adjacent to this, there is the baby room, which caters for babies from the age of 3 months until they are walking.

Our Pokesdown nursery also hosts a Hi 5’s after school and holiday club for school children up to the age of 11.

At Tops Day Nurseries our aim is for all children to meet or exceed expected development for their age. We are implementing ‘SchemaPlay’ across all of our settings to help narrow the gap for any children showing signs of delay and to also enhance the learning experiences for all children that attend our settings. ‘SchemaPlay have recently created a video to help parents understand what schemes are, and how these can be identified and promoted at home. Watch the full video here’.

We want to make a difference to the children’s lives, by having fun and allowing them to be curious, we do this by having caring, nurturing, professional staff who encourage and support children in becoming confident, resilient learners.

Tops Pokesdown also implements extra-curricular activities in line with the rest of the Tops Day Nurseries family. For example, Tops Cooking School, Boogie Mites, yoga, tooth brushing, Football Fun and much more!

The children at Tops benefit from our balanced no-added sugar menus that we have designed to support growth and development using the Children’s Food Trust Recommendations.  To view our healthy, nutritious recipes click here.

This nursery is part of a group that provides the most eco-sustainable Early Education and Care in the UK, being respectful of the environment and acting to reduce, re-use and recycle resources is an important part of the culture and routine for the children and staff.

Our Pokesdown day nursery is one of the four Early Education and Care settings within the Tops Day Nurseries family to open in the Bournemouth area, including Tops Bournemouth at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital, Tops Charminster at Claremont Avenue and Tops Christchurch based at the old Priory Hall.

“My son has been attending Tops Day Nursery in Boscombe since he was around 22 months old and I have always been very happy with the care he has received. The nursery has really helped him with reaching his milestones. He will be sad to leave to attend 'big school' in September which just shows how much he loves attending the nursery.
