Whilst your child is in our care we are more than happy for you to call us as often as you like to talk to a member of staff about your child and their day at nursery. During your child’s day at nursery we will record important information to share with you, such as sleep times/nappy changes and information about milk/food intake. This information is added to a daily report which is submitted onto EYLOG.

Outdoor play or group activities allow children to develop skills of co-operation when working and playing with their peers. All the activities are play based but challenging and take account of the individual needs of the children. They are all carried out in a safe and stimulating environment and in line with the current EYFS guidelines.

Self registration will support the children in beginning to recognise the letters of their name. Each day when your child arrives they will be encouraged to find and place their name on the self registration board. Letters and Sounds is a teaching programme designed to help children understand how the alphabet works for reading and spelling and is delivered through a variety of fun activities. Feeder Schools – your child’s next step
We are often asked where we ‘sit’ in the pyramid of schools in Poole Borough. Most of our children go on to attend the following local schools:
Some our children have also gone onto other schools which are a little further out, which include:
Tops Poole – Mini Beasts Play Club
Mini Beasts is a fun and friendly group for 5 – 7 year olds held at Tops Poole. We run action-packed holiday clubs across the Summer, Easter and Christmas holidays as well as at half terms breaks.
Please see below the Easter Holiday plans for Tops Poole’s Mini Beasts Holiday club. We hope you can join us!

Parents and carers at Tops Poole are always very welcome. We also have a group of parent representatives who meet termly to discuss ideas for the nursery, fundraising and events. For more details on becoming one of our parent representatives, please ask the Tops Poole office.

Tops Poole – Ofsted
We were rated ‘Good’ in our latest Ofsted inspection. Comments we are particularly proud of include:
- The committed manager incorporates the views of staff, parents and children well to help her focus on priorities for improvement and ensure good-quality experiences for children. For example, she has met the recommendations from the last inspection and created a large sandpit outdoors that helps children to develop their physical skills.
- Staff develop children’s interest in reading successfully. Children enjoy looking at fiction and non-fiction books and regularly visit the local library. Staff support children’s communication and language development well.
- Children are motivated to learn and progress well. This includes those in receipt of additional funding, those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those learning English as an additional language.
