Welcome to Tops Poole!

We are a friendly and active day nursery based on Denmark Lane, close to Barclays House in Poole. We cater for children from 3 months old until they are ready to start school.

Individuality is so important to us, and we believe every child is unique with their own passions, needs and challenges. We make every effort to provide a friendly, relaxed, safe and playful environment where our children can learn, develop and enjoy their time at nursery.

Do you work at Poole Hospital, Barclays house or the RNLI? Tops Day Nurseries works in partnership with these employers and offers a staff discount.

We have recently introduced a number of extracurricular activities in the Tops Day Nursery curriculum, please click here to find out more additional activities and services provided by Tops Day Nurseries.

We can offer 15 hours funding which is available for 2, 3 and 4-year-olds! To find out more about 2-year-old funding, please click here. To find out more about 3 & 4-year-old funding, please click here. Come in and see us for more details, conditions apply.

Take a look at our lovely rooms at Tops Poole…

Whilst your child is in our care we are more than happy for you to call us as often as you like to talk to a member of staff about your child and their day at nursery. During your child’s day at nursery we will record important information to share with you, such as sleep times/nappy changes and information about milk/food intake. This information is added to a daily report which is submitted onto EYLOG.

Children have free access to a wide range of activities, offering them learning experiences in all areas of the EYFS. Investigators

Planned activities are created from the children’s interests and areas of their development being supported.  During circle time the children are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities, some of which are from the Rainbow Project, which will support and promote social and emotional aspects of learning.

Outdoor play or group activities allow children to develop skills of co-operation when working and playing with their peers. All the activities are play based but challenging and take account of the individual needs of the children.  They are all carried out in a safe and stimulating environment and in line with the current EYFS guidelines.

Pre-school

Children have free access to a wide range of activities, offering them learning experiences in all areas of the EYFS.  During play the children socialise with each other and with the practitioners and are able to work on developing a variety of skills.

Self registration will support the children in beginning to recognise the letters of their name.  Each day when your child arrives they will be encouraged to find and place their name on the self registration board. Letters and Sounds is a teaching programme designed to help children understand how the alphabet works for reading and spelling and is delivered through a variety of fun activities.  The activities pave the way for children to make a good start in reading and writing.

All children have access to the garden daily. Outdoor play or group activities allow children to develop skills of co-operation when working and playing with their peers. Feeder Schools – your child’s next step

We are often asked where we ‘sit’ in the pyramid of schools in Poole Borough. Most of our children go on to attend the following local schools:

Some our children have also gone onto other schools which are a little further out, which include:

Tops Poole – Ofsted

ofstedlogo

We were rated ‘Good’ in our latest Ofsted inspection. Comments we are particularly proud of include:

  • The committed manager incorporates the views of staff, parents and children well to help her focus on priorities for improvement and ensure good-quality experiences for children. For example, she has met the recommendations from the last inspection and created a large sandpit outdoors that helps children to develop their physical skills.
  • Staff develop children’s interest in reading successfully. Children enjoy looking at fiction and non-fiction books and regularly visit the local library. Staff support children’s communication and language development well.
  • Children are motivated to learn and progress well. This includes those in receipt of additional funding, those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those learning English as an additional language.
