We are very pleased that Tops Musgrove have been able to form links with a local care home in Taunton, St George’s Residential Home to discuss the opportunity for some of our pre-school children to visit the elderly residents.
As many of you may be aware, Channel 4 recently aired a documentary called ‘Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds’, where ten pre-school children visited a care home and got to spend time with the residents. Half of the residents had no immediate family, including their own children or grandchildren, and admitted to feeling lonely. The impact of having the children visit daily made such a difference to the elderly residents, they perked up and care staff saw improvements in their health and mental well being.
Tops Musgrove has arranged fortnightly visits to St George’s Residential Home to allow the pre-school children to spend time with the residents sharing stories, games and activities.
Upon their first visit to St George’s Residential Home, the children very much enjoyed carving pumpkins with the residents in preparation for Halloween. They also used the lids of their pumpkins to make pumpkin prints on paper! The children can’t wait to go back next week!
