Protecting Your Child: Why Vaccinations Matter!

At Tops, your child’s health is our top priority. We know that keeping them safe from serious diseases is incredibly important, which is why we want to talk about the importance of childhood vaccinations.

The NHS offers a free vaccination programme that protects children from serious illnesses like measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, and more. Vaccines train your child’s immune system to recognize and fight infections if exposed in the future. Thanks to successful vaccination programs, the UK prevents more than 5,000 deaths and over 100,000 hospital admissions annually.

Unfortunately, vaccination rates in England have fallen below the target recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO), leaving children at greater risk. With rates now under 95%, diseases like measles and whooping cough are on the rise again. These infections can have serious consequences, including hospitalisation, long-term complications, and in extreme cases, even death.

Vaccines have a long history of safe use and demonstrate proven effectiveness in protecting against diseases. Every year, millions of children receive their vaccines without issues, and health experts worldwide agree that immunisation is the best way to protect your child’s health and wellbeing.

If you’re unsure about vaccines or have concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your GP or health visitor. They’re more than happy to address any questions and guide you through the vaccination process. If you think your child has missed a vaccination, it’s never too late to get in touch and catch up with the schedule.
