Resources to Support Home Learning

The early years are an incredibly important time in a child’s development, and now that some parents may have decided to keep their children at home rather than in nursery, Tops Day Nurseries want to support parents as much as possible during the second lockdown.

Many parents feel the pressures of balancing children’s home learning with their own daily work, especially as many parents are now working from home. We’ve come up with a list of a few resources we feel will be helpful for parents and carers throughout this period. These resources support The 7 Areas of Learning & Development:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

As well as having some designated time for yoga, why not make it even more fun and incorporate a game into your yoga exercising. There are plenty of fun exercises on YouTube as well as this video that explains more about how you can turn it into a game. Try taking a look at Magic4Children’s page for tips on teaching Mindfulness to your little ones.

Physical Development

Join Joe Wicks otherwise known as “The Body Coach” and the other 1 million Households who tune in to watch the nation’s favourite unofficial PE teacher, 9 am Live on Facebook and Youtube.

Communication & Language

As well as our Makaton videos you can find on YouTube, take a look at this lovely Sign & Sing class from Kids Can Communication that uses various nursery rhymes to teach signs.

Literacy

David Walliams has released a free audio story each day for the next 30 days to help keep children entertained. Find out more here. Magic4Children also offers plenty of resources that teach the magic of reading.

BBC Tiny Happy People has a range of activity and play ideas so support literacy and communication skills. Take a look at their website here.

Mathematics

Carol Vorderman’s The Maths Factor aims to help your child understand and enjoy maths – and is now free to access while schools are closed.

Understanding the World

We have various videos on our Youtube with our practitioners reading to you in various languages to help their understanding and curiosity of the world around them. You can also try out cooking new meals with a former MasterChef star who will publish a list of ingredients the day before each session. ‘Kids Cook With Theo’ is streamed on Instagram and YouTube.

Expressive Arts & Design

There are so many resources available that help build on children’s creativity through learning. Myleene Klass will be airing a music class on Instagram and YouTube Monday and Fridays at 10am and on Wednesday at 6.30 for lullabies for little ones. Subscribe for FREE.
