At Tops Bournemouth, we’re passionate about helping children grow into confident, capable citizens. That includes learning how to stay safe in the world around them! Getting read for Road Safety Week, we were delighted to welcome the Road Safety Team from BCP Council for a hands-on, engaging session with our little ones. Their visit was part of a free programme offered to pre-schools and primary schools across the BCP area.

Making Road Safety Fun and Memorable

The session began with a storybook about road safety, introducing key terms like pavement, road, and kerb. Then came the fun part: dressing up and role-playing! Some children became cars, others pedestrians, and even a school crossing patroller.
With mini traffic lights, a zebra crossing, and police uniforms, the children were immersed in a realistic and exciting learning experience. The team created a safe space where children could practise crossing the road, stopping at traffic lights, and understanding how to stay safe near vehicles.
We were also thrilled to receive the equipment on loan for a week, allowing our children to continue exploring and reinforcing what they learned.

Why Road Safety Matters, Especially Now

As the weather improves and families spend more time outdoors, it’s the perfect moment to start building good habits around road safety. Whether walking to the park or heading out with grown-ups, understanding how to stay safe near roads is a vital skill and one we’re proud to support at Tops.
Road Safety Week, led by the Brake charity, is all about raising awareness and encouraging communities to take action. This year’s theme focuses on Safe Roads for All, and we’re proud to be part of that mission by helping our children learn how to protect themselves and others.

Growing Minds for a Greener, Safer Future

At Tops Day Nurseries, we believe in growing minds for a greener future and that includes helping children become thoughtful, responsible citizens. Sessions like these not only teach safety but also build confidence, independence, and awareness from an early age.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to the BCP Council Road Safety Team for their incredible work and for making such a positive impact on our children.
