Share a Story Month 2022

Share a Story Month is an annual event running throughout May, organised by The Federation of Children’s Book Groups (FCBG). The FCBG was started in the 1960s in response to parents wanting to learn more about children’s books and how to encourage their children to read more. Share a Story Month aims to celebrate storytelling and how powerful it can be.

This year’s theme is ‘Belonging’ and there are lots of ways you can get involved. The FCBG are running lots of competitions, including Belonging Book Recommendations and a Class or Library Display Competition.

It is incredibly important for young children to read both at nursery and at home. Reading is vital for child development and can improve their mental health. Studies have shown that children who read regularly have a wider range of vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better level of development when starting school. Check out some of our reading facts below!
