Based on the much-loved children’s books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, Tales from Acorn Wood brings to life the charming woodland world of characters such as Fox, Rabbit, Bear and Mole. We experienced the production as a warm, interactive, and family-friendly show, filled with music, storytelling, and gentle humour, perfectly designed to captivate young audiences and spark their imagination.
In the lead-up to the visit, we immersed ourselves in the world of Acorn Wood. We explored the stories, learnt about the characters, and enjoyed reading the books together. As part of our creative activities, we also produced a range of artwork inspired by the show, which was proudly displayed on a dedicated stand at the theatre for visitors to enjoy.
The visit was made possible through our ongoing partnership with Lighthouse Poole, who were recently sponsored by us for the Tales from Acorn Wood production. This collaboration continues to strengthen our commitment to providing unique, educational opportunities that extend beyond the nursery environment and into the local community. It also gives us regular opportunities to experience live theatre, supporting our learning, creativity, and confidence.
Experiences like this play an important role in early years development, helping us to build language skills, explore storytelling, and engage with the arts in a meaningful and memorable way.

“At Tops, we’re passionate about bringing learning to life through engaging experiences. Our partnership with Lighthouse Poole gives children the chance to explore storytelling through creative activities and live shows, helping build confidence and spark imagination. It’s been great to see the children’s excitement from creating artwork and learning about the show to watching it live.”
Lucy Funnell, Corporate Development and Events Manager, said: “Lighthouse is delighted to be working in partnership with Tops Day Nurseries, proud supporters of our family programme. We are passionate about giving young people the opportunity to experience the joy of live theatre, and it is fantastic to be so closely aligned with Tops in this shared commitment. It’s both wonderful and rewarding to see such young audiences engaging so enthusiastically with the art”.
This partnership continues to strengthen our commitment to providing unique, educational opportunities that extend beyond the nursery environment and into the local community.
