Community Impact

At Tops our Vision is

“To maximize the social and environmental outcomes for children, learners, colleagues, and the community while being financially sustainable.”

We believe that we have responsibilities toward our environment, society, the local community, the economy, the ecology, as well as our customers and colleagues. With every action, we consider the social and environmental consequences; sustainability is one of our key company objectives and all strategies have sustainability embedded within them.

In regards to our community mission, we aim to be a part of, and contribute, to each nurseries’ local community.

Tops Day Nurseries engages nationally with fundraising and awareness events such as Jeans for Genes, Red Nose Day, and with charities such as Surfers Against Sewage (Plastic Free Schools, beach cleans), Eco Schools (external accreditation) and Just One Ocean (micro plastic surveys).

Closer to home, each of our nurseries work in partnership with a range of different organisations such as hospitals and care homes (inter-generational childcare and education together with those on the elderly and dementia wards), sharing activities and music to benefit both generations, as well taking part in local community events such as festivals celebrating different cultures represented in the community and workplace, for example Chinese New Year and Diwali.

Tops welcomes volunteers from other organizations, for example children on work experience from schools, young people who are not yet ready to be employed and adults wishing to experience working with young children.

We work with partner organisations such as the local churches, hospitals, care homes to encourage more inter-generational volunteers recognising that “retired” adults benefit as much as the children from spending time together in our settings

Tilly the Playbus

Tilly brings play opportunities to children in Dorset, either with their parents, as a crèche facility or alongside an event.  The playbus has a toilet, handwash basin and change facilities on board for babies and toddlers, and can accommodate breastfeeding mothers as well.

Our company enables its colleagues to volunteer through flexible time arrangements; colleagues can volunteer through programs organized internally or externally, but there is no pressure at all to do this. They are contributing to social impact through the work they do already, engaging in initiatives led at nursery level, such as food banks, and shared resources (such as nappies, craft materials, recycling collections).
