First introduced in 2016, Too Good To Go is an app that aims to help tackle the ongoing problem of food waste. It is a free app that allows you to buy unsold food from supermarkets at the end of their service to prevent the food from being thrown away. This can give people access to perfectly good food at a much cheaper price whilst saving the environment at the same time! If you’re struggling to afford food as a result of COVID-19, it may well be worth trying this out.

The recent Coronavirus outbreak has meant people have had to make a lot of changes to their daily lives. People have been panic-buying, stocking up on food but many have also been losing their jobs and struggling to buy food. Especially affected are those with children who are normally entitled to free school meals and may be missing out on these now that schools are being told to close.
This app is a great way to get access to food at a cheaper price and has been helping those that need it most right now. The new app lets you pick up a large box of food before it goes off for just a few pounds to save the supermarkets from throwing it all away. Too Good To Go works with various local cafes, supermarkets and other food stores so that there are plenty of choices available. With Morrisons for example, you can buy a box of food that would be worth £10 for only £3.
Saving money whilst saving the environment – according to figures, global food loss and waste amount to between 1/3 and 1/2 of all food produced. Food waste ends up in landfill where it rots and releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that damages our environment. If we stopped throwing away food it would save the equivalent of at least 17 million tonnes of carbon dioxide!
