Tops Charminster rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted

WP_20141209_003Tops Charminster is celebrating after Ofsted has awarded the nursery its ‘Good’ status following an unannounced inspection this November.

‪This was the first inspection since December 2013 and Ofsted noted some very positive elements to the practice at the nursery.

The report highlights how Tops’ staff provide a welcoming and friendly environment, where children can build good relationships. Ofsted has seen the nursery’s key-person system as effective, resulting in staff knowing the children well as individuals, with children settling quickly and feeling secure.

Ofsted inspector Brenda Flewitt said: “The nursery provides a welcoming and stimulating environment, and encourage children to explore and investigate independently, with friends, and through adult-led activities.

“Children are creative in building various constructions, such as obstacle courses for themselves and toys, such as model cars. Staff make interesting equipment available in the outside area to promote all areas of learning.

“Staff make sure that children who are learning English as an additional language are able to use their home language in the nursery. They find out key words from parents and use a multi-lingual device to aid communication.”

The nursery was also praised for promoting healthy lifestyles effectively, as the children enjoy healthy and well-balanced meals, which are freshly prepared each day.

Tops Charminster caters for children from 18 months old up to pre-school age, and children 5 – 11 years in the Mini Beasts Play Club. The nursery became part of the Tops Day Nurseries family in January 2013 and provides flexible childcare to the local community.
