Tops Day Nurseries Celebrate Vegetarian Week by Sharing New Vegetarian Recipes

Here at Tops, we have been celebrating National Vegetarian Week by sharing our new vegetarian recipes with the children and their families.

National Vegetarian Week encourages us to put a spotlight on delicious vegetable-centred meals. To support this, we revealed our new range of vegetarian recipes, which are included in our new summer menu. Children, parents, and colleagues were all encouraged to try the new meals and were educated on the positive impact they have on our health and the environment. Some of our new vegetarian recipes include vegan sausage rolls, curried lentil dahl, macaroni and garlic bread and homemade cheese scones.

We believe in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible world for all, and we aim to achieve this through educating the children that attend our settings. We have made a number of company-wide, sustainable changes, including our famous no-added sugar menus that launched in 2016 but, more recently, our vegetarian meals that were introduced last year. The multiple sustainable initiatives we have introduced have contributed to us becoming first day nursery chain in the UK to achieve B Corp accreditation, and we were also awarded a Queens Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development this year.

Peter Ttofis, Catering Manager at Tops said ‘It is so important to create a well-balanced and varied diet. By introducing vegetarian dishes into your diet, we can use a wide variety of foods and produce that help us ensure we are gaining all the nutrients we need. Vegetarian food can be really exciting and also allows us to use our creative sides as well as introducing children to a full spectrum of fruits and vegetables”.
