Tops Day Nurseries Exeter has officially opened its doors, welcoming children and families from across the city with a joyful celebration led by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Anne Jobson.
The opening marked an exciting milestone for the local community, bringing flexible, eco-conscious childcare in Exeter closer to families who value sustainability, high-quality early education and nutritious food for their children.
The official opening event brought together parents, carers, local partners and the Tops Exeter team for a vibrant day of celebration. Guests were invited to explore the nursery, meet the educators, and experience first-hand the warm, nurturing environment created for children aged 9 months to preschool.
The highlight of the day was a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the Lord Mayor, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of the nursery. Councillor Anne Jobson spent time talking with families and staff, recognising the vital role early years provision plays in supporting working parents and the wider Exeter community.
“I was delighted to be invited to open Tops Day Nurseries Exeter, which operates close to the University. Both the tour of the nursery and the opportunity to meet many of the team showed not only a warm, but a community-focused and sustainable approach, which was very impressive.”
– Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Anne Jobson
Guests were treated to a delicious catered spread prepared by the award-winning Tops catering team, offering a taste of the nursery’s nutritious, child-friendly menus. Sample dishes included a fragrant katsu curry and a warming tagine, showcasing how Tops weaves healthy eating into everyday nursery life.
At Tops Exeter, mealtimes are about more than food; they’re an opportunity to build positive relationships with nutrition, encourage independence and support children’s wellbeing from the very start.
Children and families also enjoyed lively music-and-movement sessions with Boogie Mites, giving little ones the chance to sing, move and explore rhythm through active play. Activity zones throughout the nursery invited hands-on exploration, reflecting Tops’ commitment to learning through play in rich, engaging environments.
These moments offered families a glimpse into everyday life at Tops Exeter. We’re proud to have a nursery where curiosity is encouraged, creativity is celebrated and learning happens naturally.
Senior Nursery Manager Kayleigh Parsons shared her pride in the new setting:
“We are delighted to officially open Tops Exeter and to welcome so many families into our new nursery. Our team has worked hard to create a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment, and it’s wonderful to see children already exploring the rooms and activities. It was also a pleasure to welcome Lord Mayor Cllr Anne Jobson to formally open the nursery — she showed great interest in our spaces and what we offer.”
