Tops Day Nurseries are pleased to be taking part in 1000 Lakeside’s Commute Week between Monday 13th – 17th June, in which they are encouraging all employees and visitors to swap their car journey for walking, cycling, public transport or car sharing for one week. This will help reduce congestion and CO2 emissions as well as make Portsmouth a nicer place to live and work.
In support of our neighbours, we will not only be joining them in finding alternative routes into work, but will also be running our own Green Week at Tops Lakeside! Saving energy is a key focus for us as we look to reduce our carbon footprint and make the world a better environment for our children to grow, so a different activity will be held for the children for each day. Throughout the week, the children will also be speaking about saving our environment during group time.
The nursery will start the week with a Litter Picking Day. We hope to encourage the children to be mindful of disposing their rubbish responsibly, and learn about the dangers for wildlife when litter is dropped.
On Tuesday 14th June, the Tops Lakeside Recycling Day will be used to educate the children on how to recycle and why it’s important, whilst on Wednesday all staff and children will be invited to wear green.
The children will be showing off their green fingered skills during the Planting Day being held on Thursday 16th June. The children will be planting sunflower seeds and being taught about their impact on the environment.
The week will end with Eco Pledge activities, a variety of games and activities will be available for the children to explore including making tree hand prints.
