At Tops Day nurseries Warminster, we believe some of the most valuable learning happens beyond the classroom. Our Explorers recently enjoyed a wonderful visit to Ashwood Care Home, where they spent time singing, playing, and making special memories with residents.
Community experiences like these are an important part of our curriculum, helping children develop confidence, communication skills, empathy, and respect for others while building meaningful relationships within the local community.
Singing, Puppets and Plenty of Smiles
The children delighted residents by performing some of their favourite nursery songs before bringing out the nursery puppets, which quickly became the centre of lots of laughter and conversation.
Another highlight of the visit was imaginative play with Ashwood Care Home’s lifelike baby dolls. The children showed great care and kindness as they played, while residents shared stories, memories and smiles throughout the session.
It was wonderful to see the natural connections that formed between young and old, creating a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

Why Intergenerational Learning Matters
At Tops Warminster, we know that spending time with older generations provides children with valuable life experiences that cannot always be taught in the classroom.
Intergenerational activities help children to:
- Build confidence when communicating with others.
- Develop empathy, kindness and compassion.
- Strengthen their social and emotional development.
- Learn about different generations and life experiences.
- Become active members of their local community.
For residents, these visits bring companionship, joy, conversation and the opportunity to share experiences with the next generation.
Thank You, Ashwood Care Home
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Ashwood Care Home for making us feel so welcome once again. The warmth and enthusiasm shown by the residents and staff made the visit truly unforgettable.
