Topsie Yeovil, part of the Tops Day Nurseries chain, based at the Holy Trinity Church Community Centre, have spent the last week promoting the importance of reading in the Early Years. Topsie Yeovil invited the local Mayor, Cllr Evie Potts-Jones, to read a story to the children at the nursery, as part of the week.
Tops Day Nurseries, a nursery chain with over 30 nurseries across the South West, actively encourage reading in the Early Years and understand the value of reading at a young age. Cllr Evie Potts-Jones was eager to get involved to help spread this important message throughout the community. During her visit, the local Mayor of Yeovil read ‘The Adventures of Scout’. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and were so excited to meet the mayor.
National Storytelling Week takes place every year and is a celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world, they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy, they help us to relax and they can help develop essential literacy skills.
Tops Day Nurseries have over 30 nurseries across the South and South West. The eco-sustainable childcare provider offers Early Education and Care for children aged 3 months to school age, as well as before, after-school and holiday clubs for children up to 11.
“We had a fantastic visit from the mayor. The children were so excited to meet the mayor and could not believe that the King was her boss. We all had discussions about the planet and recycling and the mayor read us a book called ‘The Adventures of Scout’. We spoke about Yeovil and how many years ago it was called Evel and the Mayor even let the children wear her ‘civic regalia’. Thank you, Evie, for taking the time to visit, we hope to welcome you back again.”
Annalea Davis, Topsie Yeovil Nursery Manager

“I was invited to visit Topsie Yeovil for part of National storytelling week. The theme for my story was ‘recycling’ and looking after our world. The children were very attentive and engaging, with all showing a genuine care for their environment. The children were able to talk about the different living environments of children around the world. It was truly lovely to have learning time with Topsie and I look forward to continuing our positive engagements with the children and staff.”
