Tops Day Nurseries are delighted to announce the launch of their Trainee Room Manager Programme!
The programme has been introduced to support our current ambitious and aspiring colleagues who would like to progress in their careers to become a Trainee Room Manager in the future. By being on the programme, colleagues are provided with additional training, coaching and mentoring.
Colleagues are either nominated by their line manager or can apply through an internal application. Successful colleagues are assigned a designated coach to support and work closely with them throughout the whole programme. Our coaches have received additional training themselves to ensure they have the skills needed to coach others. Training and coaching can be provided online via zoom video calls, which enables learners to access various levels, roles and departments within the company.
The Trainee Room Manager Programme allows colleagues to be exposed to different areas within the Company and will give them the experience, skills and knowledge that they need in order to become a successful Room Manager in the future!

As a trainee room manger so far, I have learnt a lot already. Through my trainee room manger training I am hoping to achieve becoming an amazing role model to not only my fellow colleagues but also the children within the nursery. I am hoping to achieve becoming a professional practitioner who can run a room within the nursery that is a loving, calm and an environment where happy and healthy childhoods can take place with supportive learning and development. Through my training and the help of my coach I know I will be able to achieve this.
Having only been a trainee room manager at Tops Winchester for a short amount of time, I feel I have learnt so much about the role, what is expected of me as a room manger and how to support others and be a good team member. So far, I have learnt how to close the nursery at the end of the day, the routine of the room and how to run the room efficiently and effectively in order to support the children. I have also learnt how to work within the team in the room, with good communication, by talking to the team to ensure we all have the same goals.
I still have so much to learn as a trainee room manager but with my coaches help, I will be able to complete it with ease. My coach, Kayleigh, has been amazing, there is never a question that cannot be asked, she is always easy and open to approach and having been the room manager herself is the best person to coach me in the same role. Seeing how Kayleigh runs the room helps me to know how the room should run to support everyone within it. Kayleigh is very supportive and encouraging, I feel I will know the role inside out with Kayleigh’s help and support. I will be able to complete my trainee room manger training to the best of my ability with the help from my coach.
