What did you do to achieve Schemaplay?

To achieve our schema play accreditation we worked with the parents to discuss what we felt the child we had chosen to do our observations on , what their scheme was. A scheme being an action the child repeatedly does through play. Each practitioner created observations that showed the journey schema play takes through a child’s learning journey. We seeded the environment with our chosen scheme in which the child could develop their skills further and the observations showed this.

Why do you think it’s important

I believe schema play is extremely important as each child is an individual and they have individual needs and it is our job as a practitioner to seek these needs and seed the environment to support the child further.

Changes you have observed since starting this journey

Being able to just take daily snapshots and upload them onto the app for the parents to see takes the pressures of development and lengthy observations from both the staff, the child and the parent reading the observations. It allows the children to develop at their own pace.

Things you are looking to do in the future to support your schemaplay accreditation

I am hoping for all of my staff to be schema play accredited within the next year or so.

Anything you want parents to know about Schemaplay at your nursery

I think parents everywhere need more information about schema play and what it is, having an opportunity to attend schema play training/workshops for them would be good if they were interested.

In conclusion, I really feel this is a great strategy in working towards a child’s individual goals, schema play gives a real personal goal to that child and the practitioners working with that child and allows them to develop freely without being put in a box.
